Job Title: Broiler Operations Manager
Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • Analyzing existing operations, livestock, staff, and financial documents and recommending improvements.
  • Oversee the activities of all farm heads at various locations.
  • Ensure farm set metrics are achieved in terms of mortality, feed convention and rearing days.
  • Preparing plans and schedules for placement, feed distribution and harvest.
  • Visiting the different divisions to inspect livestock, and also perform post mortem and send specimens to lab.
  • Disease prevention and ensure good health of birds.
  • Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
  • Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and training of new staff members.
  • Collaborating with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports.
  • Building professional networks and keeping abreast of developments in agricultural science.
  • Monthly review of incidents and health and safety report generation
  • Environmentally Impact Assessment Review – quarterly
  • Manages the logistics of all restocking programmes including planning, transport, timing of deliveries, rostering of staff, cost analysis, bird health and documentation
  • Contribute to safe systems of work and the development of a quality management system through adherence to the organization’s policies, procedures and practices, actively participating in the identification and implementation of strategies to control all relevant risks, including the appropriate reporting of notifiable occurrences and environmental incidents and ensuring all work practices continuously improve in accordance with quality principles
  • Responsible for prioritizing tasks and budgeting allocation of machinery and workers for the farm in order to ensure smooth functioning of the farm.
  • Manages and develops the operations work in consultation with the Farm Head
  • Carries out operational management and administrative functions associated with the operations
  • Developing and implementing of standard procedures
  • Farm visits to ensure metrics are achieved.
  • Interpreting and analyzing of results (Trend analysis)
  • Ensures Health and Safety legislation and plans for the farm are adhered to and implemented by staff and other relevant parties
  • Demonstrating a commitment to workplace safety
  • Prepares and implements management and developmental plans for the department and undertakes the training of new personnel to ensure effective settling in
  • Manages the formulation and implementation of health management plans (including disease diagnosis & treatment, consultation with veterinary consultant, drug treatments, disease prevention etc) Biosecurity measures and housekeeping protocols
  • Daily monitoring and recording of quality parameters,
  • Manages and optimizes the functional operating budget allocated, ensuring all expenditure is in line with the agreed budgets and seeks appropriate approvals before spending Identify areas where money is being lost and seek ways to reduce expenditure

Job Qualification 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or equivalent or Vetenary Medicine
  • Extensive experience in a farming-related field.
  • 10 -15 years in a large scale farm with say 300,000+ birds
  • Management experience would be a plus.
  • Highly focused and result oriented
  • A passion for Poultry Farming
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to make decisions in stressful environments.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Would be incharge of supervising staffs, monitor crops and animals, and handle various administrative tasks.
  • Prepare budgets, purchase supplies, maintain relationships with vendors and clients, and ensure maximum profitability.
  • Maintain professional networks and keep abreast of developments in agricultural science.
  • Detail-oriented but also keep the bigger picture in mind.
  • Keen problem solver focused on efficiency and take a hands-on approach to management.
  • Tech savvy, proficient in excel skills, analytical and management skills
