Lekki Freeport Terminal, part of the CMA-CGM Group, is the only Container Terminal Operator in Nigeria’s only deep seaport, namely Lekki Port.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gate Exception Handler
Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Purpose
Project Phase:

  • As a support to the superuser team, engage in all project implementation activities ensuring gate, planning, and operations department are built, designed, and ready for the operational go live.

Operational Phase:

  • Through the terminal gate automation process, to constantly monitor and control terminal gate/landside operations and all its stages, and handle, attend and solve truck transaction exceptions during truck cycle in an effective and fast manner, ensuring smooth traffic flow and efficient performance.

Major Job Responsibilities
Project Phase:

  • Actively follow and promote the LFT Safety and Security policies and ensure that fellow employees and visitors are doing the same.
  • Support LFT operations superuser, engage in preparation and revision of standard procedures of operations department.
  • Support LFT operations superusers in the preparation and revision of training manuals for internal training programs.
  • Support LFT operations superusers on the execution of additional end-user training on overall departmental processes and terminal applications (i.e., TOS, GOS, VBS).
  • Support LFT operations superusers in setting & configuration of different system modules.
  • Be involved in several labs & live equipment tests demand during TOS/GOS (and other system`s) implementation and interfaces as a supportive role to LFT operations superusers
  • Report to LFT operations superusers issues and results of executed tests and follow-up solutions.
  • Involve in the implementation of best practices.

Operational Phase:

  • Actively follow and promote the LFT Safety and Security policies and ensure that fellow employees and visitors are doing the same.
  • Ensure all gate transactions and scanning/inspection moves in TOS and GOS are performed proactively.
  • Monitor and execute all truck visits & transactions proactively through all available software and hardware.
  • Resolve all exceptions arising from all different stages of truck visits promptly.
  • Resolve all exceptions arising from internal trucks engaged in scanning/inspection container moves promptly.
  • Ensure all gate automation processes are adhered to and there is a smooth flow of traffic in the gate lanes.
  • Ensure all Truck drivers follow procedures at the different gate stages.
  • Prompt answer intercom calls to liaise with truck drivers regarding any issue in place, to reduce truck stay.
  • Escalate all unresolved issues to Gate Supervisor/Planning/Execution/Security where required.
  • Report to line managers, IT/Technical teams any malfunction or challenges encountered on systems in use (i.e., XPS/N4, PASS, VBS) and external hardware (i.e., Kiosk in/out totems, intercoms, card & fingerprint readers, RFID readers, OCR cameras, CCTV cameras, boom barriers, traffic lights, etc.).

  • Report to line managers any congestion in the gate and/or inspection area due to any problem in place for proper action from supervisors.
  • Report immediately to line managers any found incident in Gate or inspection area.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth process flow.
  • Maintain effective communication with peers and departments to escalate or solve exceptions of different nature.
  • Execute manual gate transaction once required due to any abnormal or non-standard process or due to any issue in place.
  • Ensure efficient handover of every shift change.
  • Prepare and share sets of reports as required by Operations management.
  • Undertake all and any related Gate duties within the capabilities as required.
  • Perform any other duties as required by Ops management from time to time.

  • Achieve and maintain all terminal KPIs.
  • Project milestones related to operations are achieved and have no delays.

Operational Phase:

  • Achieve and maintain all terminal KPIs.
  • Exception handling resolution timely resolved.
  • Gate transactions performed without errors and wrong delivery/receival.
  • Gate infra and equipment are well maintained and up to operational requirements.
  • No delay in the mail and correspondent handling.
  • All reports assigned by the management are executed without delay and fault.
  • Seamless handover between shifts.

Qualifications & Experiences
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a Logistics / Operations field, Computer Science or any equivalent discipline.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a warehouse, inland terminals, or container terminal operations on related activity.
  • Experience in gate operations is an advantage.
  • Experience with NAVIS N4 and/or CERTUS gate system and/or gate automation is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of the shipping industry and port business.
  • Knowledge of trucking community operations, customs, and clearance procedures.
  • Knowledge of yard layout and operating techniques.

Skills:

  • Ability to work under a pressure environment with a constant change of priorities.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate across the organization.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate in English (Speaking/Reading).
  • Ability to work on weekends, nights, holidays, and for a long period.
